Mums on Mondays- Little tookatook

Welcome back to Mums on Mondays- a weekly feature that showcases businesses of interest to Mums in Toowoomba! This week features Little tookatook, the creation of Louise Hardie. She is a very talented lady who specialises in making handpainted aprons, bags, canvasses and towels.

Louise started Little tookatook about ten years ago, when she was living in Melbourne, and is named after the nickname her mother gave her. Her range is all handpainted, and most items are made-to-order and personalised. Kids love to see their own name on the products!

Her favourites are her originals- the farmer, and the girl with flowers, (based on two of her children). The latest addition to her range, the superhero, is based on her youngest son. She has recently added some new colours to the range including purples, oranges and greens- as seen in the bags above.

Louise starts by drawing the name on paper, then transferring it to a square of calico. She then draws a circle and triangle to make it either a boy or girl. She completes the drawing with final details – wings, wand, flowers, fork or cape. She starts with the base colours and lets that dry before adding the finer details. She uses quality fabric paints that are ironed once the painting is finished. This sets them and the item becomes fully washable in cold water.

The bags make great presents for any baby or child. Not only are they used as  library bags, many people have used them as nappy, food, overnight or toy bags. They even make a great decoration, hanging from a door handle. The range has been very popular with grandparents, buying special things for their special grandchildren.
