Choosing what to wear for your photo session is always the most pressing question for those who have booked a photo session, but even more for a sunflower photo session! In Toowoomba, we are lucky to have some beautiful sunflower fields so close to us on the Southern Downs. Usually there are fields open in late Summer and Autumn so that you and your family can be photographed there. Late afternoon is the preferred time for that soft and golden light.
Here’s a few simple pointers that will help you choose what to wear for your sunflower photo session:
Colour is everything
Choosing the colours for your clothes for your sunflower photo session is often the biggest decision! Blue is a great choice to stand out from the sunflowers.
White looks light and airy, and gives a great contrast to the yellows and greens of the sunflowers.
Light neutral colours also provide great contrast, and tone in well to the natural surroundings.
Pastels in light pinks, blues, and even greens, give a softness against the bright colours of the sunflowers.
Navy is a good option to pair with any of the above as a strong colour to contrast.
What about patterns?
I would suggest using any patterned elements as an extra to your plain colours. The sunflower fields are already quite busy visually, so plain colours are good to balance that out. Also, trying to coordinate multiple people with patterns can be a tricky task!
What shoes should we wear?
Sunflowers are grown in fields, which are often muddy and soft. Avoid heels. Stick with flat shoes or sandals. Street shoes and casual sneakers are also very practical!
Accessories
A hat always looks great in sunflower photos, with the bonus of giving you some shade if it’s hot! Scarves are great for a pop of colour, and a touch of jewellery to match your outfit is always a great idea!
